This curtain coater is designed for applying a continuous, uniform film of liquid coating (like UV-curable coatings, lacquers, vanishes) to flat or neatly flat wood panels.
It is the machine of choice for manufacturers who need to apply a pristine, high-quality finish to large quantities of flat wood panels with maximum efficiency and minimal waste, to achieve a perfectly smooth, uniform, and consistent layer of finish on large, flat surfaces at very high production speeds.
Process Description
- Wood panels (e.g., MDF, particleboard, plywood, solid wood) are conveyed on a continuous belt at a precise and constant speed.
- The liquid coating is pumped into an overhead reservoir (the ‘coating head’) that has a precision slit at the bottom. The coating flows out of this slit, forming a continuous, waterfall-like ‘curtain’ of liquid.
- The wood panel passes directly underneath this falling curtain. The coating lands evenly across the entire width of the panel, covering its surface in a single pass.
- Any coating that does not land on the panel is collected in a trough below, filtered, and pumped back into the reservoir for 100% reuse.
Capacity
Up to 1,200m2/hour (depending on substrate type and dimension)
Applications
It is mostly used for finishing high-glossy panels, or substrates that need thicker coating layer.
- Produces an absolutely flat, smooth, and uniform film without any orange peel, streaks, or roller marks. It is ideal for creating high-gloss, mirror-like finishes that are prized for furniture, cabinets, and decorative panels.
- It is one of the fastest coating methods available. It can process a very high volume of panels in a short time, making it ideal for mass production environments.
- Since the excess coating is collected and reused, the transfer efficiency is virtually 100%. This drastically reduces material waste and consumption, leading to significant cost savings and making it a very eco-friendly process.
- The high material efficiency and the common use of solvent-free UV coatings mean that VOC emissions are minimal compared to conventional spray finishing.
- The process is highly mechanical and controlled by precise settings (slit size, conveyor speed, viscosity). Once set, it will produce the exact same finish on every panel, ensuring perfect batch-to-batch consistency.
- It can apply a much thicker wet film in a single pass than spray or roll coaters can.

- Structure
- Conveyor System
- Application Unit
- Electrical Parts
The structure is built with 16mm steel plate that can withstand heavy-duty use in industrial environments. It’s designed for reliability and minimal maintenance, ensuring consistent and uninterrupted operation.

Belt: 1.6mm thick solvent-resistant belt, 2 sections
Drive: Aluminum geared motor
Designed to transport panels at a perfectly consistent speed, which is critical for achieving a uniform film thickness. Speeds can often exceed 60 meters per minute.

It has an adjustable precision slit that controls the thickness of the curtain and, consequently, the coating weight (grams per square meter).
The width of the head can be matched to the panel size.

Key Components
- Electrical cabinet, contains terminal blocks, circuit breakers, and fuses that distribute incoming power to the various components while providing overload and short-circuit protection.
- Emergency stop button, the large red button located at the conspicuous place, when pressed, it immediately cut power to all motors and close the curtain valve.
